(Facilitator: Ryan Bodanyi) We seek justice for the victims of the world's worst-ever industrial disaster, a chemical gas leak in Bhopal, India, in 1984 that killed 20,000 and injured more than half a million. An estimated 120,000 are still suffering from the effects of their exposure; the site is still contaminated; health problems have been passed on to the second and third generations. When Dow Chemical, a company with its own dirty legacy, purchased Union Carbide in 2001 it also purchased Carbide's moral and legal responsibilities in Bhopal. Like the student campaign waged against Dow during the Vietnam War, our student campaign for Bhopal, now active at 70 schools, demands that Dow ends its legacy of death around the world.
