PROTEST THE OPENING OF THE NEW MOVIE "BLOOD DIAMOND"
Friday, December 8th, 6:30PM, in front of UA Riverview, 1400 S. Columbus Boulevard in Philadelphia (corner of Columbus Blvd. & Reed St.)
We will be leafletting and holding placards intended to educate
movie-goers about the devastating impact of both "conflict" and "non-conflict" diamond mining on indigenous populations.
The new film, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, portrays African people as the brutalizers and the white hero as the savior of African people when in fact the brutality of the neocolonial forces of the RUF in Sierra Leone during the civil war were no different from what the white world has been doing for the last 600 years, stealing the resources of African people and
committing genocide. The DeBeers cartel is put forward as the solution to the brutal conditions that African people face when in fact, DeBeers has been part of the colonial process that slaughtered millions of African people in Europe's "scramble" for Africa.
-Boycott all diamonds; ALL DIAMONDS ARE BLOOD DIAMONDS!
