Founding Conference of the Movement for a Democratic Society (MDS), Feb.17,

SDSers at the New School in New York City, led by student and SDS
re-founder Patrick Korte, will be hosting and joining in the events of
February 17, 2007, an all-day conference to confirm a sister organization
for the revived Students for a Democratic Society. The program is as
follows, with an anticipated attendance of 250:

9:00-9:45 Coffee and Registration

9:45 Pat Korte will offer greetings

10:00 MC Paul Buhle, Brown University, will introduce Tom Good, SDS/MDS
organizer, who will offer a background of SDS' relaunch since February,
2006, and will introduce the famed leader of the Columbia student strike of

10:30 Mark Rudd, Albuquerque Technical-Vocational Institute, will speak on
the history and values of SDS and their meaning for MDS

11:00 Co-MC Penelope Rosemont, Charles H. Kerr Publishers, will introduce
Manning Marable, Columbia University, will speak on the multiracial
struggle for justice, and the crisis in US society today

11:30-12:00 MC Paul Buhle introduces Tariq Ali, to speak on the global
crisis, the Middle East and the Bolivarian Revolution

Noon: Jay Jurie presides as Senia Barragan, Brown University undergraduate,
activist and Punk singer will speak about the SDS role and the emerging
culture of resistance; joined on stage by Devra Morice, Brian Kelly and
other New York area SDSers/MDSers

1:00 lunch

2:00 Penelope Rosemont introduces Barbara Ehrenreich to speak on social
crisis and the role of activists

2:45 Paul Buhle introduces Bruce Rubenstein to speak on Old Theories and
New, an Approach for the Left in the 21st Century

3:30-4:30 Discussion and Vote for MDS Board, Chaired Jay Jurie

4:30-4:45 Comments by Living Theater cofounder, Judith Malina

4:45-6:30, social hour, coffee

4:45-5:30 MDS, Inc. board meeting [simultaneous with social hour]

5:30-6:30 fundraiser with Leonard Weinglass [simultaneous with social hour]
