CanadaThe CSFTN is currently putting its energy toward organizing our third annual convergence. We have three objectives for the 2008 Convergence: (1) map the student movement and facilitate a consensus-building process on how to re-structure the CSFTN into an organization with student activists from across the country represented in its leadership structure; (2) train student activists on advocating for an ethical purchasing policy; and (3) connect the Fair Trade and No Sweat student movements.
Initial details are available at www.csftn-recce.org and further details will be available soon. We hope to see you there!
At the 2007 Convergence, with the support of our sponsors, the CSFTN distributed $13,000 in financial aid to bring together Canadian and international Fair Trade actors to share experiences, build new partnerships, and strengthen existing ones.
The 2007 CSFTN Convergence hosted the first strategic planning meeting of the Fair Trade Association of Canada – a developing national movement organization, demonstrating the ongoing leadership role students are playing in the Fair Trade movement in Canada.
Since the 2007 CSFTN Convergence in June, the network has produced a campus action guide for advocating for ethical purchasing policies and distributed the guide throughout the grassroots and to organizations who work with student activists, such as the World University Services of Canada (WUSC), Oxfam Canada and TransFair Canada. The guide is available on our website at http://www.csftn-recce.org/english/CSFTN-RECCE%20Purchasing%20Policy%20Campaign%20Action%20Guide.pdf . In August, the CSFTN’s National Coordinators participated in two weeks of training in Nicaragua with student leaders from the US-based United Students for Fair Trade.
