Fifteen years of organizing and activism has taught us that it takes sustained coordination and planning on a national level to win concrete victories and build a strong youth movement.
The National Council is an open group that meets twice a year to make important decisions about SEAC's national priorities. We don't tell local groups what to do - we are the local groups, coming together, learning, teaching, and strategizing.
The National Council (NC) consists of National Council Representatives. NC reps are an elected position from within your local grassroots group. Each member group has the opportunity to elect up to two representatives from their group to sit on SEAC's National Council.
Each National Council meeting is different, but all have some basic elements:
Discussions on regional campaigns and networks, as well as building stronger local groups
Discussions on further integrating anti-oppression organizing into SEAC's work
Creating strategies to implement SEAC's mission and goals
Budget planning; setting our spending priorities and aligning those with concrete fundraising plans
Forming or strengthening committees to work on everything from field organizing to Threshold to fundraising
Having fun with music, stories, parties, games, & more!
