John Thomas, 174, Tapti Hostel, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi India 009868774805Students' Solidarity is a group in Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India, that has been campaigning against the corporatisation of campus space. Although the initial impetus for the campaign came out of the resentment many students felt over the establishment of a coffee outlet by Nestle in campus, the group has gone on to expose and question the larger agenda of the Univeristy administration to gradually sell off the University space to corporate interests. It is well known how big corporations, with crminal records, use their economic and political power to determine and control our everyday lives, limiting our choice, our space and our minds. In Indian Universities, like elsewhere, corporates hand in glove with the University administration have begun to gradually invade the campus life, determining everything from what we eat to what we research. It is this that the group resists and try to raise consciousness about in the University campus. This is a campus group. Geographical Scope: Local Added on 12-18-2004 Updated on 09-09-2005 |
