Progressive Students for Justice (PSJ) is a group at Fordham University in the Bronx, N.Y., dedicated to educating and empowering students through social justice and action. PSJ consists of four committee?s: Prison Reform/Death Penalty, Campus Democracy, Women?s Empowerment, and Labor Solidarity.
The Prison Reform/Death Penalty Committee deals with issues like the Rockefeller Drug Laws, Sodexho?s ties to the private prison industry, and the death penalty. Campus Democracy strives change the oppressive power structure of the University by empowering students to have a voice. The women?s empowerment committee does events like Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Take Back the Night, The Vagina Monologues, various activities around women?s history month, and are currently bring representatives from MADRE to campus to speak about the effects of the War on Iraq on women. The Labor Solidarity Committee was created to support workers struggles globally and domestically, along with the struggles of workers on our campus and the movement to get Fordham to join the WRC. In addition, the Labor Solidarity Committee organized Fordham Students Against Sweatshops. FSAS includes several other student organizations on campus and Our recent events include speakers from UNITE's GAP campaign and a teach-in about the FLA and WRC. Our main campaign this year is to get Fordham to join the WRC.
